Slot Canyon Day Hikes

We will tailor hikes to fit your interests, fitness level and desire for adventure. We hike the great canyons through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the San Rafael Swell. Below we list some of our favorites, but there are dozens more available. Do you want a narrow, beautifully sculpted slot? Challenging obstacles? Waterfalls? Let us know and we will plan a custom trip just for you.

Peek-a-Boo, Spooky and Brimstone Slot Canyons

Easy. This is one of our most famous hikes, through 2 or 3 classic short slot canyons. It is ideal for young hikers. It boasts the tightest narrows that an average-sized adult can squeeze through. It's incredibly fun.

Sooner Wash - Willow Gulch (Broken Bow Arch)

Moderate to Strenuous. This hike has it all. Slick rock, sandy trails, a waterfall, challenging obstacles, wading, hanging gardens, a classic arch, water pools and plenty of places to explore.

Egypt

Moderate. This is a fantastic hike for the slot canyon enthusiast. Our hike will take you into one of the longest slots in the region. If you are claustrophobic, try another adventure as this canyon is very tight and only those in reasonable condition should attempt it. For those willing to hike here, the rewards are worth it. The hike includes some wading and scrambling. The return hike is over some of the most impressive slick rock formations found in the area.

Little Death Hollow and Wolverine Creek (Eastern Escalante)

Strenuous Day Hike or Moderate Overnighter. This is a great hike to see the Wingate, Kayenta and Chinle formations as you pass through them. The area contains huge petrified logs. The narrows are fun and we will also enjoy a bit of slick rock hiking as we bypass obstacles in the main canyon.

Crack and Chute Canyons

Moderate Day Hike. This loop hike takes us through one canyon used by uranium miners and their jeeps and trucks and another canyon that is classic for the Swell. These canyons have sections of vertical walls and varying widths. This is one of my favorite hikes for introducing the Swell to newcomers.

Quandary Canyon (Hidden Splendor Mine Area)

Strenuous Day Hike. This hike requires an excellent cross section of canyoneering skills and may be a great hike for the experienced hiker/canyoneer. It requires climbing, down climbing, potential swimming and wading. There are some great narrow sections as well as open sandy washes.
